Bar

  • Area: 506 km2 (including the area covering parts of Skadar Lake belonging to Bar – 633 km2.)
  • Population: approximately 42,050
  • Climate: Mediterranean and Adriatic with strong continental influences
  • Roads: highway Bar-Podgorica-Kolašin-Bijelo Polje-border with Serbia; highway Herceg Novi-Budva-Bar-Ulcinj connecting Croatia with coastal towns. The construction of the Podgorica-Mateševo section of the motorway will give more significance to the location of Bar, with increased safety on the road connecting the central Montenegro and the Adriatic Sea.
  • Railway infrastructure: Bar is the starting point of the Belgrade-Bar railway
  • There are two airports near the Bar municipality, the one in Podgorica (41km) and in Tivat (58km).
  • The Port of Bar is used for seaborne transport needs creating a connection with the ports from all continents. As opposed to all other ports on the east coast of the Adriatic, the Port of Bar is a freight and passenger centre containing two terminals which can carry out port operations for liquid, bulk, shipping container and special cargo. There is a duty free zone inside the Port of Bar.

  • The 46 km long coastline with a large number of beaches, mostly sandy ones, over 9 km of total length.
  • Skadar Lake is an important tourism resource for the municipality – its natural conditions are conducive to the development of various types of tourism, including recreational, beach, day-trip, sport and rural tourism.
  • The mountain chain of Sutorman, Rumija and Lisnja also have tourism development potentials, being suitable for mountaineering, hiking and marked wine trails increasingly common recently.

Business environment in the municipality of Bar is characterized by waiving of utility equipment fess for construction land.

Utility equipment fess for municipal construction land are decreased by:

70% – facilities intended for manufacturing or processing industries or storage;

20% – primary catering facilities offering services of accommodation and serving food and beverages, with the exception of hotel groups;

50% – primary catering facilities offering services of accommodation and serving food and beverages, hotel groups;

65% – above ground garages as individual facilities or as a part of a facility.

Investors are exempt from paying statutory fees or any fees for the construction and reconstruction of residential buildings and industrial facilities in rural areas inside zone VII.
